Inner Workings is an anthology from Calendar of Fools, a collection of science fiction and fantasy stories. Each story is accompanied by a short essay on writing craft that the story illustrates. In addition, the anthology includes stories and essays from established authors we met at the Writers of the Future workshop, including Martin L. Shoemaker, Eric James Stone, Wulf Moon, and Kary English. Find it on sale here.
This is the first publication released by Calendar of Fools, a publishing company founded by me and several other Writers of the Future winners. We all contributed original short stories and essays on the craft of writing that are illustrated by our stories.
My story, "Uncross the Stars," is set in a universe where zombies and vampires coexist with humans. Bryce the zombie is an actor who is frustrated that humans get all the best parts. Then the perfect role comes his way: playing an undead Professor Moriarty in a Sherlock Holmes movie—but he’s up against Benedict Cumberbatch!
