My story, "Jupiter Rises," has been selected as one of six stories from over 570 submissions for publication in the online magazine, On the Premises. The theme of this issue is Somewhere Else, where writers were challenged to create a story where someone or something important to the story is not where it would be expected to be located.
In my story, AL is an artificial intelligence piloting the Anomalous Jupiter Artifact eXpedition spacecraft (AJAX) sent to investigate a mysterious black band that has appeared around the planet's equator. He lands on Callisto to establish an observatory, only to encounter a robotic machine digging holes in that moon. Excited by this First Contact with an extraterrestrial intelligence, AL must now determine why it has come to our solar system and what it is doing to Jupiter.
