John M. Campbell will be at the official kickoff event on Wednesday, September 7th to launch the publication of Bizarre Bazaar, the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers anthology of short stories. The event will be held at the Barnes and Noble bookstore (960. S. Colorado Boulevard, Glendale, CO 80246) from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The anthology features fresh takes of familiar stories from myth and folklore. Authors will be performing short readings of their stories to give the audience a sense of the range of stories in the book. My story, "Racing the Marineris," is a retelling of "The Tortoise and the Hare" set on Mars as a cross-country match race the length of the Valles Marineris. The heroine of the story, Johanna Henry, drives the racecar nicknamed "The Tortoise" against an Elon Musk-like billionaire and his AI-driven racecar "The Hare." In calling her "a steel-drivin' woman," the press plays up its parallel with the legend of John Henry who challenged a steam-powered machine in a contest to drill through granite.
Come meet me and the other authors and get our autographs in your copy of our book hot off the presses!
